Chicago’s weekend ended with 10 people dead and 25 wounded after a series of shootings, traffic fatalities, and other violent incidents across the city. Chicago also led the nation in weekend shooting incidents.
Gun Violence Archive recorded 16 shooting incidents involving 5 people killed and 19 wounded, the highest shooting incident total of any U.S. city during its reporting period.
Since that reporting snapshot, two additional people were shot Sunday night in Austin and Rogers Park, bringing the local weekend shooting tally to 5 dead and 21 wounded through 10:33 p.m. Sunday.
Violence spread across neighborhoods from the North Side to the Far South Side, with multiple victims shot in separate incidents throughout the weekend.
Among the victims was a 5-year-old boy who remained in critical condition after a drive-by shooting. Separate attacks also wounded a 16-year-old and two 20-year-olds.
Weekend violence included a six-victim shooting in Humboldt Park and a double shooting in Roseland that left a 24-year-old woman dead and a 20-year-old woman wounded, accounting for the largest clusters of gun violence during the reporting period.
Separate from the shootings, four young people were killed when a vehicle fleeing police went off the Cicero Avenue bridge and crashed into a freight train boxcar in West Lawn.
The victims were 19, 18, 17, and 14 years old, with the 14-year-old later dying at a hospital after initially surviving the crash.

The overall weekend tally of 10 dead and 25 wounded includes the four bridge crash fatalities in West Lawn and one woman killed during a disturbance on Interstate 57 near Halsted.
