SubX.News Street Report | Sept 3 2025
Chicago spent September 3rd unraveling in real time — morning shootings, a man dying on Monroe, 90 cars discovered at the bottom of the river, teenagers storming CTA trains and robbing tourists on Michigan Avenue
By nightfall, federal agents were rumored to be inbound, detention centers being prepped at Great Lakes, and suburban train stations were showing the same decay as the Loop.
The city is not holding together. It is coming apart.
Morning Shootings Across the City
The blood started flowing before dawn. At 3:31 a.m., a man staggered into Rush Hospital after being ambushed on the 4800 block of West Polk. He told police he was parked when a white sedan pulled up. An argument broke out, the driver pulled a gun, and shots were fired. He survived with a wound to the hip and a graze to the head.
Less than four hours later, violence broke out inside a home on the 8100 block of South Maryland. A 35-year-old woman was shot in the stomach during a domestic fight and taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition. Police arrested a known offender.
Later in the morning, tragedy struck the West Side.
A 39-year-old man was found unresponsive on the 4300 block of West Monroe with gunshot wounds to the chest and pelvis. Detectives recovered three shell casings and a firearm at the scene.
He was rushed to Stroger Hospital and later pronounced dead. Investigators ordered a gunshot residue test to determine if he had fired a weapon.
Spot News noted he was known locally for selling drugs. That evening, the body was removed. Tattoos covered both forearms, and his hands were bagged for evidence.
A Ghost Fleet in the River
Late in the morning, a company reported that 90 submerged vehicles had been found in the Chicago River near the Richard J. Daley Park boat launch at 3150 South Western Avenue. At least five of the cars were newer models.
Citizen app reports confirmed CPD’s Marine Unit was called in, but CDOT authorization was needed before removal.
Scanner traffic captured the exchange, Zone 13 radio confirmed a Marine Unit boat was en route:
“I just want to let you know my Sergeant’s sending a boat heading your way. They’re just pulling away from the dock, so they should be there about 10 minutes or so.”
“It’s the neighbor people, and they found a couple of fresh ones here… we’re getting all their info, and we’ll let your folks know when they get here.”
Concerns were raised about leaking gasoline and oil in the water. A sergeant from the 9th District arrived on scene as the Marine Unit launched a recovery boat.
Downtown in Daylight
The Loop showed its collapse in plain view. Around 4:21 p.m., scanners reported a shoplifter fighting with security at 310 South Michigan.
Fifteen minutes later, children were seen left to watch an infant on a street corner. Exploitation and endangerment in the middle of the city’s showcase district.
Not long after, footage surfaced of people stretched out, sleeping on the pavement at Ida B. Wells and State.
Just blocks from City Hall, the downtown corridor had become a stage for theft, neglect, and child abandonment — all inside of thirty minutes.
Migrant Killer: Canaryville Teen Murder Case
Prosecutors laid out the chilling case of Daniel Navas Maiver, a 19-year-old Venezuelan migrant charged with murdering 15-year-old Alex Durante and critically injuring a 12-year-old boy in Canaryville on August 28.
According to court filings, Navas Maiver stalked six boys near 47th and Union. He slipped into a vacant lot, raised a pistol, and opened fire. Surveillance video, eyewitnesses, and ballistics tied him to the shooting. Investigators say he later confessed on tape.
Durante died at Comer Children’s Hospital from a bullet that pierced his abdomen. The 12-year-old survived a chest wound and remains in recovery. Judge Susana Ortiz ordered Navas Maiver held without bond, calling him a flight risk.
Douglass Park Lawsuits and Park District Double Talk
On September 3, families of 15-year-old Marjay Dotson, killed at the Douglass Park pool, and 14-year-old Jeremy Herred, critically wounded, announced lawsuits against the lifeguard who opened fire and against the Chicago Park District.
The filings accuse the Park District of negligence and reckless supervision, arguing the city allowed an armed employee to work at a public pool and put children at risk.
Officials initially framed the shooter as a rogue worker acting outside the rules. But records and community accounts show he had been on the job for years, trusted with youth programs, and had even made multiple safety complaints about violence against staff at pools.
Now the same bureaucracy that equipped him — and ignored him — is claiming it had no role in the tragedy. A familiar pattern: deny, deflect, and distance while families bury their children.
Federal Agents Rumored to Deploy
Leaked CPD chatter pointed to a federal law enforcement surge coming this weekend. Multiple agencies are expected to operate in Chicago for at least a month, and officers’ days off have already been canceled.
Plans include barracks-style detention centers at Great Lakes Naval Station. Patrol and tactical teams have been ordered to stay in uniform but keep riot gear close. City officials, in quiet talks with progressive groups, are bracing for protests once the agents hit the streets.
The National Guard isn’t part of the plan — unless the protests turn violent.
Downtown Night Chaos
Nightfall brought another wave of breakdowns in the Loop and on the South Side. At 63rd and Cottage Grove, a pack of ten teenagers stormed CTA Green Line car 5088 and attacked a passenger.
Less than two hours later, a swarm robbery was called in at 9th and Michigan Avenue. Witnesses said another group of teens surrounded a victim and ran south down Michigan.
Around the same time, three men robbed a victim at 430 North Michigan, pulling a gun and taking a wallet and a watch before fleeing toward Rush Street. Police checked cameras but came up empty.
ABC7 News Chicago highlighted the case of William Livingston, accused in past incidents of punching women and girls in unprovoked attacks downtown. The report noted that one victim, a woman from Lake Villa, had been knocked unconscious in the Loop — part of a longer pattern of assaults tied to Livingston.
The night ended with a lakefront call — a disturbance on the bike path at Solidarity and Linn White escalated into a battery in progress.
Officers described the offender as a white male in a green jacket and tan pants.
Aviation Mishap in Wheeling
Suburban first responders were dispatched to Chicago Executive Airport (Palwaukee) after a Gulfstream G150 overran Runway 34. The jet crashed through the perimeter fence and came to rest near E. Hintz Road, just yards from traffic.
Officials haven’t confirmed whether the incident happened during takeoff or landing. No word yet on injuries.
CPD Alerts and Arrests
The day also brought a wave of community alerts and press releases:
Attempted Child Luring — A 12-year-old girl on the 4800 block of West Potomac (Sept 2) reported a man in a black minivan tried to motion her toward his vehicle before fleeing.
Facebook Marketplace Robberies — Logan Square residents were warned of a string of robberies (July–August) where victims meeting to sell items were robbed at gunpoint or by force.
Felony Charges — CPD announced charges in three major cases:
Dontrell Cooper, 30 — charged with attempted murder of CPD officers after allegedly firing on police in 2019. Arrested September 1, 2025. Six years after the incident.
Ramiro Sanchez, 39 — charged with first-degree murder in the August 31 fatal shooting of a 48-year-old man on South Kolin. Arrested within two hours. No explanation has been given for the killing, and the question remains whether residents are safe from further gang murders.
Chad Brooks, 47 — charged with attempted murder in the May 25 shooting of a 37-year-old man. Arrested September 1, 2025, in Alsip by CPD and U.S. Marshals. Months on the loose — how many people did he hurt in that time?
Evanston Purple Line Breakdown
The dysfunction wasn’t limited to Chicago. At the CTA Davis Purple Line station in Evanston, riders filmed a man’s belongings spread across the platform as commuters stepped around.
Why does the government allow this type of activity?
The scene showed a transit platform turned into a shelter, not safe passage.
Youth Technology Corps and the Final Word
Amid the wreckage, one bright spot flickered: 2025 marked 20 years working with Youth Technology Corps, recycling technology for youth engagement. It’s the kind of grassroots program that still manages to stitch together hope while the city around it unravels.
From 90 cars in the river to lifeguards with body armor, from migrant kids with pistols to infants abandoned on downtown corners, from Evanston train stations to meth flooding across the border — the pattern is the same.
System failures created by people in power.
Then they blame the worker, the migrant, the thief. They grieve in public, deny in private, and lie all the way through.
The only truth we know is they lie.
… if you ain’t doing nothing, you ain’t saying nothing, so you’re not changing nothing …
