SubX.News® Crime Report | June 6, 2026

Friday afternoon began with reports of a sexual assault and two stabbing victims at State and Lake.
By the end of the night, detectives were telling a different story.
Initial police reports described a sexual assault, a fight, and a woman stabbing two men.
Hours later, detectives revised the incident, changing the alleged sexual assault to “unwanted contact” and ultimately determining that only one person had actually suffered a laceration.
State and Lake, the location of the incident, sits directly outside theWit Chicago hotel and is currently impacted by major CTA construction associated with the ongoing State/Lake station reconstruction project, with barriers, fencing, and construction activity surrounding portions of the intersection.
CPD blocked off multiple blocks of State Street between Randolph Street and Wacker Drive to vehicle traffic following the incident, creating a large crime scene in the heart of the Loop during the Friday afternoon rush.
Photos and video from the scene show police tape extending along State Street outside theWit Chicago hotel while detectives processed evidence and documented the area.
Personal belongings remained inside the crime scene perimeter in front of State and Lake Chicago Tavern, including luggage, bags, footwear, and a rolling suitcase or luggage cart next to a child’s car seat attached or positioned in front of it.
Scanner traffic also referenced a female reportedly carrying a suitcase, though police have not publicly explained whether any of the items were connected to the individuals involved in the incident.
Multiple revisions to the police narrative raise unanswered questions about what actually occurred at State and Lake, who was involved, and why the confrontation escalated into violence.

Police have not explained the relationship, if any, between the 24-year-old woman, the 25-year-old man, the 31-year-old man, and the 36-year-old woman.
It remains unclear whether they were friends, family members, acquaintances, romantic partners, co-workers, or complete strangers who encountered one another on a crowded downtown sidewalk.
Questions also remain about how the 25-year-old man received his injury, why an alleged eye stabbing was later removed from the narrative, and what evidence led detectives to revise the incident from a reported sexual assault to unwanted contact.
Television stations, newspapers, social media accounts, and even Google’s AI-generated news summaries repeated versions of the earlier police narrative before detectives issued their final update late Friday night.
As of Saturday morning, the public still does not know what relationship, if any, existed between the people involved, what started the confrontation, or why the accounts provided by police changed multiple times over the course of the evening.
No arrests were announced in the public notifications, and Area Three Detectives continue to investigate the incident.
What Officers Were Saying on the Radio
Scanner traffic recorded during the incident suggests responding officers were trying to sort out a rapidly evolving and confusing scene.
Within minutes of arriving, officers reported two stabbing victims, a knife recovered at the scene, and a female suspect in custody.
One officer described a male with lacerations to the face, neck, and arm while another victim reportedly suffered a laceration to the hand.
Radio traffic also reflected uncertainty over whether one of the victims could also be considered an offender.
Additional radio traffic referenced allegations that a female claimed the stabbed male had sexually assaulted her prior to the confrontation.
One responding officer stated the male could potentially be taken into custody based on that allegation.
The transmissions show officers attempting to determine who was a victim, who was an offender, and whether anyone else was being sought.
Several of those details later changed as Area Three Detectives continued their investigation and revised the public narrative surrounding the incident.
Based on the scanner transcript, officers were discussing at least four involved people:
- Female with the knife — placed in custody in the back of a squad car. Dispatchers and responding officers repeatedly referenced the female who allegedly carried out the stabbing.
- Male with facial, neck, and arm injuries — initially described as one of the stabbing victims and later discussed as a possible offender because of the sexual assault allegation.
- Male with the hand laceration — described as the second victim who suffered a cut to the hand.
- Female making the sexual assault allegation — officers specifically referenced a female alleging that the stabbed male had sexually assaulted her prior to the confrontation.
One unanswered question from the radio traffic is whether the female with the knife and the female making the sexual assault allegation were the same person or two different individuals.
The transmissions never clearly answer that question.
Scanner traffic also appears to align more closely with the initial police narrative than the final detective update, further illustrating how the publicly reported facts evolved over the course of the investigation.
Public CPD notifications later identified four people involved in the incident: a 24-year-old female, a 25-year-old male, a 31-year-old male, and a 36-year-old female.
Police have not publicly explained the relationship between any of the individuals involved.
