No mass shooting. No poolside body this time. But don’t call it a good day.
June 30 didn’t bleed—it rotted.
The city slid into the last day of the month with all the signs of a system in freefall. Carjackings and robberies in daylight. Drug use in parks, CTA stations, and under viaducts. Kids with knives at a public pool. Political signs standing tall while government buildings crumble. It’s not chaos that kills—it’s what thrives in the silence after the sirens stop.
Citywide Robbery Season
At 4:39 p.m., a man was robbed at gunpoint on East 87th Street. His white Chrysler was taken by two Black males armed with pistols. License plate: EX44792. The dispatch called it a robbery, but CPD will likely code it “auto theft” to protect the stats.
Earlier, a successful carjacking at 56th and Tripp kicked off a wild multi-town police pursuit. The suspect crashed a gray Dodge Challenger with a damaged wheel in Cicero. The high-speed chase ended with one arrest—no one hurt, just another felony added to the pile.
Meanwhile, retail thefts all over the city:
– A male and female raided the Walgreens at 4745 W. Belmont.
– A woman hit Walgreens at 5440 N. Clark for beer.
– Three women looted a Family Dollar at 13319 S. Brainard.
– A CTA bus alarm sounded at 74th and Jeffery.
– The CVS at 3615 N. Central was hit by looters at 5:58 p.m.
Not a single report of arrests.
No Slushies, Just Dealers
At Dearborn and Van Buren, a group of men stood posted around 5:25 p.m., openly smoking weed, staking out the block. Let’s not pretend they were selling lemonade. This corner’s been lost.
That same brazen confidence spilled over into the CTA Red Line, where a group of female offenders worked train car 5593, hitting riders at Belmont and Addison. At least three victims were hit in a robbery spree before the train was finally stopped.
Parks Full of Needles, Not Play
In Levin Park, junkies openly shot up next to kids playing basketball. Hypodermic needles scattered the ground. Mattresses set up in the shadows. The fieldhouse turned into a dope den. At one point, we saw a man completely folded over—another statistic no one’s counting.
And yet—Mayor Johnson insists the parks are safe.
Franklin Park Pool hosted a knife fight among teens. No one died, but that doesn’t mean the threat wasn’t real. When pools become battlegrounds, the narrative collapses with the institutions.
Downtown, Discarded
Even amid heavy police presence for upcoming NASCAR events, downtown was nowhere near clean. Near Lake and Laramie, at least six drugged-out people slumped on sidewalks, surrounded by boarded-up buildings and abandoned city offices. Still, Brandon Johnson’s face grinned from giant signs promising progress.
A resident asked the obvious: “Where are the city services?” The answer, as always, was nothing but wind.
Over in Oak Park, dopeheads lined the CTA station. People were nodding off under trees, near buses, in front of shocked families. No cops. No outreach. No dignity
Symbolic Rot
One final note: a raccoon—sick, possibly poisoned, maybe heatstruck—was dumped in an alley in Dunning. Animal control never came. Residents tried to care for her, but no city worker ever showed.
It’s the same treatment people get.
It’s the same treatment addicts get.
It’s the same treatment victims get.
That’s Chicago in summer 2025: no help, no order, no shame.
Just wreckage, rituals, and rot.
