Picture … abandoned CTA turnaround creates dangerous conditions in residential neighborhood, resident said its been like this for years 9225 S King Dr 652pm July 24th 2025
SubXNews Street Report July 24, 2025
The rain didn’t break Chicago — the system did. What began with a storm warning spiraled into a full display of decay: collapsing infrastructure, street-level drug markets, violence on all sides of town, and a migrant housing scandal that keeps mutating.
By mid-afternoon, a flood advisory hit the city just after 3 p.m., signaling the next wave of chaos. Residents were warned about potential inundation in underpasses and low-lying areas. But the danger wasn’t just water. As the sky darkened and winds picked up, live footage captured rain hammering rooftops, the city momentarily swallowed by storm.
Be safe. Be careful. Don’t go out if you don’t have to, came the warning from a live video report from the southside — and that was before the unraveling began.
CTA and City Death Trap
Earlier in the morning, the CTA had already begun its slow collapse. At 6:35 a.m., a man teetered shoeless along the Blue Line platform, intoxicated and swaying over the tracks. Hours later, at 4:18 p.m., a woman was attacked at the Roosevelt Red Line station. By 5:20 p.m., a downtown State Street bus stop was rendered unusable during rush hour by a man sprawled across the bench. Each scene violated Chicago’s own Municipal Code 7-28-060, which classifies unsafe conditions as public nuisance violations.
Drugs and drug addicts remained the city’s most visible export. At 4:50 p.m., dealers openly sold product near Clark and Lake. Just steps away, a young Black woman, likely in her 30s, sat slumped and dazed on the sidewalk by a graffitied alley near the 7-Eleven — no EMS in sight. She’s all drugged up over there. With pushers operating in full view and no city response crews intervening, it was business as usual in the Loop.
Eight hours later, at a quarter past midnight, West Side sidewalks were similarly overtaken — drug zombies bending in place while the pushers stood nearby, waiting for the next customer.
Vanished into Thin Air
Driving southbound after the rain let up, came the shocker: migrants were missing, and the millions spent on their housing? Condemned and boarded up. Another plywood special — this one deep in Washington Park. What was sold as sanctuary had decayed into a crime scene. This is what collapse looks like when the funding dries up and the lies get exposed. The boarded-up shell of 6114 S. King Drive came into view — an epicenter of a suspected migrant money laundering scheme that funneled federal dollars through fraudulent housing contracts.
Once touted as safe and uneventful by officials, the building had witnessed multiple murders and was now condemned. Migrants missing nowhere to be found.
Continuing the drive, an abandoned CTA turnaround at 9225 S. King Drive stood as another testament to institutional neglect. Shattered fencing, deteriorating pavement, and decades of inaction made the site indistinguishable from a desolate wasteland, yet it was on the main street. Residents said it’s been this way “for years.”
One called it a ‘trap’—both for safety and accountability. This wasn’t just a maintenance failure; it was a case study in how Chicago abandons its infrastructure, letting entire stretches of the South Side rot in plain view. The rot at 9225 wasn’t hidden — it was policy.
Just like 6114, money scams in Black neighborhoods while the Black mayor yells he needs more money to steal. It might bring solace if the scams benefitted the Black residents — but as one said off the record: We gonna fix this shit.
Summer Programs Ain’t Working
From there, the next stops were two active crime scenes hours apart that revealed the human toll. First, at East 100th Place in the London Towne Houses Co-op, a 16-year-old boy was shot just after 5 p.m. while standing behind a building. The bullet struck his left flank. He survived and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition. A video report from 8:28 p.m. showed officers combing through backyards, a quiet neighborhood disrupted by gunfire with residents peering out from their doors, watching the investigation unfold.
Then, later that night and across the city, shots rang out again.
Other violence filled the gaps: a 37-year-old found shot to death in a crashed car at 3:21 a.m. on East 103rd; a kidnapping involving a stolen Jeep and a child at 5:26 p.m.; three boys — aged 14 and 15 — hit a man with a car then stole his SUV in a violent Edgewater carjacking last month, leaving the victim critically injured; two more shootings after 11 p.m. — one on South Commercial striking three people, the other on Kildare leaving a 36-year-old critically wounded.
A quiet call at 9:23 p.m. led police to the 2600 block of West Wilson, where a woman had just found a handwritten funeral note from her brother, missing since July 21. Moments later, she discovered his body — 23 years old, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police ruled it a suicide. There were no signs of foul play, just another life quietly erased while the city was busy unraveling elsewhere.
Transit is the Magnet
Less than two hours later, chaos erupted again — this time back on the CTA. A stabbing was reported at the Kostner Pink Line station. Police converged on 2019 S. Kostner, but the suspect had fled. Witnesses described two Hispanic males in bandanas escaping into the night.
No arrests were made. No cameras stopped it.
Just another bloodstained chapter in the story of how Chicago’s transit system became a crime syndicate with turnstiles.
Elsewhere, a Wisconsin Dells murder suspect was tracked to the downtown Greyhound bus terminal at 10:10 p.m. A known shoplifter hit a pharmacy again at 10:26 p.m., while armed cars prowled the West Side shooting people. And out in the suburbs, Berwyn saw a literal explosion — a pair of main gas lines ignited following a thunderstorm, leveling a gas station just after 5 p.m.
The final stop, a late-night burrito, offered a sobering view: displaced drug users reshuffling blocks, shadows of the same people seen earlier, the system still failing them.
By the end of the night, it wasn’t the rain that drowned Chicago — it was everything else.

Male (37) shot & killed, 2017 E 103rd St the victim sustained GSWs to the left leg and torso, he was pronounced on scene. the crime scene consists of the body, 2 open containers from the rail yard that were broken into, and a silver Volkswagen w/ no plates that’s running near the tracks. the VW looks like it crashed, there are bolt cutters and other stuff laying around near the vehicle. and for any Units over there for the person shot, we’re getting a call for 105th and Oglesby, this might be the victim’s sister. caller states that near the train area, SB is the offender, that’s the person who shot the brother. the sister is requesting to speak to the police. caller has a photo of the offender, and the offender’s vehicle is still running at the location. we have more information for the Units over there. we’ve got a trail of blood that leads a little bit into the rail yard, so the victim might have been chased down to where the location he is now. Explosion destroys Berwyn gas station following storm by: Alonzo Small, Jenna Barnes Posted: Jul 24, 2025 / 05:26 PM CDT Updated: Jul 24, 2025 / 09:20 PM CDT BERWYN, Ill. (WGN) — A pair of main gas lines ignited following a thunderstorm Thursday afternoon, leading to an explosion at a gas station in west suburban Berwyn. Fortunately, no one suffered injuries, according to Berwyn police. SkyCam9 flew above the scene in the 6700 block of Ogden Ave., where police say that just after 3:40 p.m., fire crews responded to reports of downed power lines after storms tore through parts of Chicagoland. First responders were on scene, tending to traffic control and safety measures, when authorities say two main gas lines at the BP Amoco Gas Station, located at 6749 W. Ogden Ave., ignited. Witnesses report hearing an explosion before the fire broke out. Law enforcement officials later confirmed such reports, adding that the blast occurred just before 3:50 p.m., “causing the complete collapse of the gas station and shattering windows of several nearby structures.” Police also evacuated some nearby residences and businesses as a precautionary measure. One witness who spoke with WGN News at the scene said their home suffered damage from the blast. As of 7:30 p.m., the Berwyn police report that fire crews remain on the scene, continuing to work to extinguish the blaze fully. Police ask residents to avoid the area or seek alternate routes. “Loudest explosion I’ve ever heard” A scene out of a movie drew a crowd to the intersection of Ogden and Oak Park Avenues in Berwyn, where people watched the aftermath of the blast as firefighters worked for hours to put out the flames at a BP Amoco gas station. Nearby resident Nick DeGiorgio was among the many bystanders in awe of the explosion. “You live six houses away, you don’t expect to see this ever,” he said. Tom Zednik, who manages the Novi’s Beef restaurant across the street, told WGN-TV that they lost power, and an employee called 911 when they noticed sparks at the nearby BP gas station. “It was just the loudest explosion I’ve ever heard,” Zednik said. Even before the explosion, people took notice of a passing storm. https://wgntv.com/berwyn/emergency-crews-respond-to-blast-at-berwyn-gas-station/
