On a hot Monday evening, the City of Chicago made its priorities clear: tow cars for tourist revenue, lie to police about tow truck availability, and let violence, drugs, and exploitation flourish.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., near Field Boulevard just south of Randolph, a city worker was seen towing a car near Millennium Park, then writing the ticket afterward — while police units over radio begged for tow trucks to clear wrecks blocking Lake Shore Drive. Dispatch told officers there was “only one tow truck” and “none available,” yet here was the tow truck, stealing cars from visitors while crash scenes sat unattended in rush hour. This was the definition of anarcho-tyranny, a city stealing from its own while claiming there were no resources to maintain public safety.
This theme of money over safety echoed everywhere that day.
Across from a Cook County Sheriff’s satellite office at Roosevelt and State, dealers smoked crack and moved stolen cars in plain sight. The same location that the media once praised as a model of crime prevention has become a theater of fraud. There were California plates, no plates at all, addicts smoking pipes at the entrance, and the Sheriff’s sign above it all.
At Dearborn and Lake around 5:18 p.m., the streets were littered with debris, dealers worked an abandoned business, and a woman lay collapsed on the sidewalk. The police patrolled but did nothing.
Over at Washington and Wabash, migrant children were used as props for panhandling while just behind me another dealer smoked openly. It was nonstop. The government doesn’t protect those children — it allows it.
At Wabash and Randolph, a man lay motionless near Macy’s while nurses and cops walked by. This is not normal. This is what Chicago has come to: motionless bodies and indifference.
Even the base of the Columbus statue finally saw activity: workers arrived with wood and machinery, possibly to move it after years of anti-colonial protests. A bit of theater in the middle of collapse.
Meanwhile, the violence of the weekend spilled into Monday.
A 16-year-old suspect tore across the north side on a scooter, hitting at least four pharmacies in a robbery spree. Witnesses and scanner traffic described him jumping over counters, stealing prescription drugs, and riding away before police could respond. Despite his age, distinctive clothing, and even the GPS-traceable scooter, officers failed to catch him as he continued moving south, striking store after store in broad daylight.
At Jackson Red Line around 6:00 p.m., police flooded the platform with shackles after a turnstile jumper headbutted an officer during arrest. For a $2.50 fare dispute, at least 30 officers swarmed into the subway system while chaos — shootings, drug dealing, and exploitation — raged unchecked on the streets above.
At 5:08 p.m. on the 2900 block of W. Washington Blvd, two young men, 17 and 20, were shot multiple times while standing on the street. Both survived but no one was in custody.
Later that night, a 2-year-old boy shot himself with an unsecured weapon in the 400 block of N. Lawndale. The toddler wandered into a bedroom, found a gun, and suffered a graze wound to his wrist. He was hospitalized in good condition, but again, no one was in custody.
In the early morning hours of July 22, more gunfire erupted near Washington Boulevard and Lavergne Avenue. At around 2:08 a.m., a woman called 911 saying she and her boyfriend had been shot.
Police and EMS arrived to find a 35-year-old woman shot in the back of the head and a 39-year-old man hit in the arm, back, and leg. Both victims were initially listed as critical, and officers applied a tourniquet on scene.
About 29 shell casings and blood were found in the vestibule and alley of 34 N. Lavergne. Later, police said both victims were stabilized and in good condition at Stroger. Witnesses reported that a black vehicle pulled up and four gunmen opened fire before fleeing. No arrests have been made.
There were more shootings, more robberies, more assaults — the city’s collapse documented in real-time.
This was all documented alongside the staggering weekend stats: a 133% spike in homicides from last year, seven dead including a baby murdered by his mother, three mass shootings, and not one suspect in custody as of Monday morning.
This is the Chicago the administration built: anarcho-tyranny, where the city lies to its own police about resources while extracting money from its citizens and abandoning safety. Cars sit crashed on Lake Shore Drive while tourist vehicles get towed.
Crack pipes burn outside sheriff offices while children are exploited blocks away.
And the mayor still has nothing to say about dozens of Black Chicagoans murdered on his watch.
