Officers responded to a call of a traffic crash. Upon arrival, officers learned that a CTA bus traveling northbound on Central was struck on the front driver’s side by a black sedan traveling eastbound on Catalpa after failing to stop at a stop sign. The impact caused the CTA bus to lose control, striking a parked vehicle, then a fixed fence, and subsequently the side of a residential building in the 5500 block of N. Central. The black sedan fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

The CTA bus was being driven by a 46-year-old adult female who sustained a laceration to the head. She was transported by CFD to a nearby hospital where she is listed in fair condition. There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the accident. No additional injuries were reported.

Five residents have been displaced as a result of the incident with no reported injuries, and the Red Cross has been notified. CFD determined that the residential building sustained structural damage.

No one is in custody at this time, and Area Five Detectives are investigating.

CHICAGO – On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at approximately 11:00pm in the 5200 block of W. Madison St., Chicago Police Department Officers observed an armed male offender brandishing a large knife while walking in the street and advancing toward civilians. Responding Officers gave multiple verbal commands to drop the weapon, which were ignored. The offender then advanced toward Officers. Several Officers deployed their tasers, which were ineffective. The offender continued to advance toward Officers, and an Officer discharged their firearm striking the offender.

Officers immediately rendered first aid to the offender who was subsequently transported to an area hospital in serious but good condition.

The Investigative Response Team is on the scene investigating.

Currently, the specifics of this incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation, are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department.

The Officer(s) involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days. This matter remains under investigation, and all further inquiries can be directed to the Civilian Office of Police Accountability at (312) 746-3609.

Preliminary Statement on Police-Involved Shooting in the 800 block of N. Waller Ave.

CHICAGO – On Saturday, September 6, 2025, at approximately 3:46 a.m., Chicago Police officers were responding to a call of a burglary in progress of a vehicle in the 5500 block of W. Thomas St. (15th District). The offenders then entered a dark-colored sedan and fled southbound on Waller Ave. Chicago Police officers encountered the offending vehicle on Chicago Ave. and Waller Ave. The offending vehicle intentionally struck two marked Chicago Police vehicles, pinning an officer who discharged their weapon, striking one of the offenders. Officers rendered aid to the offender, who was then transported to Stroger Hospital and later pronounced. The second offender was placed into custody and transported to an area hospital for unknown injuries at this time. A firearm was recovered in the offending vehicle. The third offender fled the scene. Officers pursued the offender on foot and recovered a firearm discarded by the offender, who is not in custody. Two Chicago Police Officers were transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries have been reported at this time. The Investigative Response Team is on the scene investigating.

The officer(s) involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days. This matter remains under investigation, and all further inquiries can be directed to the Civilian Office of Police Accountability at (312) 746-3609.

Officers responded to a call of a large disturbance. While officers were on scene, they heard gunshots fired a short distance away. Officers relocated to the area of gunfire and discovered multiple victims had sustained gunshot wounds. The CFD arrived on scene to treat the victims and transport them to area hospitals. Four firearms were recovered on scene, and a person of interest is being questioned by Area Detectives. Area One Detectives are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
