Chicago SubX.News Street Reports July 29, 2025
We have to stay clean and strong to make it through a day in Chicago. Lunch at Ann’s Bakery — pierogis, pork stew, chicken kabobs, cookies — keep us fueled.

On the South Side, a car wash at 21st and Wood turned an open hydrant into a rinse cycle, blasting the mud off a Jeep. This is survival now, adapting as we go.
When the city fails, people find their own way to stay clean and keep moving.
South Side survival — blasting the mud off a Jeep with an open hydrant at 21st and Wood, July 29, 2025.
While our city stumbles through wrecks, fights, looting, and a mayor whose tax explanation left many puzzled, we have no choice but to wash up, eat well, and keep moving forward.
Rush that Crawls
The morning rush collapsed on the Eisenhower at Des Plaines where three separate crashes stacked up. Reports said up to eight cars were along the right shoulder. Traffic was frozen as drivers waited for tows.
A Jeep wanted in burglaries barreled through Cicero and Pratt in Lincolnwood, smashing into a black Honda. Four suspects ran and police caught them nearby.
At the DMV contradictions surfaced — an elderly woman vented about Korea, then plates were handed across the counter in under five minutes. If plates are over the counter, then why do we keep seeing so many fake ones running the streets?
Highway 53 turned deadly with a report of a fatal crash — a vehicle rear‑ended a truck possibly at 60 mph. Traffic on the corridor messed up for hours.
Where is the Good Times
North Milwaukee Avenue looked gutted, storefront after storefront boarded up in what was once a Polish and Hispanic working‑class hub.
Minutes later on Fullerton, the decay had a human face: a man with no legs lay in the street, the American dream reduced to pavement. That image still haunts the day.
Back at Ann’s Bakery, pierogis, pork stew, cucumber salad, cookies — a heavy meal that still sustains.
The Chicago Teachers Union headquarters lot gleamed with foreign cars even though the union once demanded American‑made vehicles. At the old Damen Silos, demolition crews chipped away brick by brick.
Mayor Brandon Johnson appeared on video struggling to explain a tax policy involving “payments in lieu” and mentioning a whole bunch of millionaires. His answer remains confusing.
Old Orchard Mall in Skokie went into lockdown on reports of shots fired. Police later called it a false alarm, but fear is still spreading among shoppers. Witnesses said there was a fight and someone claimed to see a gun.
The city dissolved into scattered brawls and disturbances.
Chaos ripples through the city. A drunk man staggers into traffic on Lake Shore Drive near Soldier Field. Teenagers clash outside Sherman Park. On Princeton, three men confront traffic services.
At Webster and Bissell, a porch pirate strips packages off porches. Over on Montrose, a man on a scooter screams at pedestrians.
The sense of disorder is still everywhere.
Downtown Stays Unprotected
Outside the CTA building on West Lake, there is no response — no cops, no security despite earlier calls. A McDonald’s on Madison erupts into a fight. On the Red Line at 47th Street, two men spit on a woman named Simone.
Drugged up bodies line the sidewalks of Ida B Wells. Dealers work openly just steps from the Loop’s storefronts.
Evening Piles On
Walgreens at 95th and Ashland is stripped bare by a mixed crew of five looters. At Fifteenth and Wood, neglect becomes shorthand: when a bum runs our city this is what it looks like.
A hydrant becomes a car wash and young men break into a closed pool to ride the waterslide. More fists fly in a park at 52nd and Loomis before a South Side sunset briefly breaks the chaos.
Gunfire follows the darkness.
On Milwaukee Avenue, a 37‑year‑old man is robbed and shot in the leg, taken to Illinois Masonic, another case marked “under investigation.” His condition is still unclear.
Will the city ever follow up?
Will anyone tell us he’s okay?
Or will it be just another shooting tossed onto the pile?
The night keeps unraveling.
Pimps and dealers crowd 49th and Cicero. Motorcycles gather at Replay in Lakeview. At Roseland Hospital, a 22‑year‑old man limps in with a bullet in his knee, uncooperative and left to fend for himself.
The case remains unsolved.
Then the ground itself gives way.
At 11:24 p.m. CDT, a magnitude 8.8 earthquake strikes Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, one of the strongest ever recorded. Tsunami sirens wail in Hawaii and Japan, waves hammer Monterey, California hours later. Coastlines are still bracing.
Let us Not Forget Chicago Crime History
Two years ago this same week, a North Lawndale mass shooting left nine women hit — one killed, eight wounded — with no one in custody and no statement from City Hall. That same night, looters tore into Roosevelt and Jefferson, smashing storefronts and ripping 7‑11 shelves bare.
Did the city ever follow up with anyone from that night?
Did they ever tell us those women are okay?
Or is it just another statistic filed away, forgotten by the same officials who keep saying crime is “down”?
The same questions hang now after the recent urban terror attacks in New York and Reno — who will follow up, who will speak for the victims, who will make sure they are not forgotten?
Our day ends the same as the world’s — broken, battered, but still standing. From Kamchatka to California, from Reno to New York, from the Eisenhower to 95th Street, it’s all one disaster stitched together. Different scenes, same collapse.
When everything breaks down, we improvise.
In Chicago a hydrant becomes a car wash and a locked pool turns into a waterslide.
In Reno and New York, whole neighborhoods are stitching themselves back together after terror tears through their streets.
Forward is the Only Direction
Everywhere people keep finding ways to keep moving.
We are not separate — everything is connected.
The meaning is the same whether we’re in Chicago, Reno, New York, Hawaii, or Tokyo: we keep talking to each other, we keep watching out for each other.
Even if all we do is share what we see online, that thread of connection matters.
And we don’t forget to check in on our older family members. Survival now means staying strong, staying clean, and refusing to let go of one another.
