Brandon Johnson Wrote, Introduced, and Passed a Cook County Resolution to Defund the Police. Now he is changing his position … When public sentiment changes and wants more police, it’s not cool that politicians try to change what they say or believe in.
The Defund the Police slogan came was part of the social unrest after the murder of George Floyd that the entire country watched on TV.
Brandon Johnson wrote and passed a Cook County Resolution to shift money from police, jails in wake of ‘defund’ movements
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby declare that to best keep communities safe and reduce contact between people and law enforcement … Cook County should engage in efforts to redirect funds from policing … especially in Black and Brown communities most impacted by violence and incarceration. (Cook County Resolution 20-2867, Mover: Brandon Johnson 6/18/2020)
… redirect funds from policing …
There are people who want to see the police budget defunded. I said it was a political goal, I never said it was mine. (Brandon Johnson, 3/14/23, UIC Public Safety Forum)
Either Johnson is a liar now to appease the middle voters, or he lied back then that he supported defunding the police.
Which one is it?
If you stand for something, stand for something don’t change your belief system for politics or the TV.
People are sick and tired of wishy-washy politicians. Johnson is taking on those same bad habits of changing his story when talking to different people.
The issue with politicians nowadays is they cling to catchphrases for votes and don’t accept responsibility when public statements can directly affect what happens on the streets in everyday life. Or in this case, a politician tries to change his position because the public is tired of seeing crime every day on internet posts and in the news.
The new fight over words will now be used to polarize voters toward one side or another. When in fact, public safety does not have one side or another.
Exactly want politicians to want, so we blame each other rather than failed leaders and grifters latching on to slogans for votes and money.
Republicans, Democrats, and even Socialists want safe streets.
Only anarchists and revolutionaries wish for chaos and crime.
In this moment, Safe streets mean more police and more funding.

Cook County Board passes resolution to shift money from police, jails in the wake of ‘defund’ movements
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cook County Board of Commissioners does hereby declare that to best keep communities safe and reduce contact between people and law enforcement that has historically increased unaccountable violence inflicted on Black and Brown communities physically, economically, and emotionally, Cook County should engage in efforts to redirect funds from policing and incarceration to public services not administered by law enforcement that promote community health and safety equitably across the County, but especially in Black and Brown communities most impacted by violence and incarceration.
