SubX.News® Crime Report
2026 is no longer tracking below recent years — it is moving back toward them. The early gap that made it look like crime was “down” has been erased week by week.
The same pattern seen in the weekly data — from decline, to acceleration, to increase — is now visible in the totals.
Not a one-week spike — a directional shift.
The chart shows where Chicago stands right now compared to the same point in previous years.
Each bar represents how many people had already been killed and wounded by this time in the year, allowing a direct comparison across years.
At the start of 2026, crime appeared sharply down. Murders and shootings were significantly below 2025 levels, creating the impression of a major decline.
The decline didn’t hold.
Week 12, the data showed crime accelerating upward.
Week 13, that acceleration crossed into increase, with shootings now above last year and multiple categories no longer down.
Now the totals reflect that shift.
