Chicago Fire Department Truck 10 and police units block the intersection of Division and Dearborn following the early-morning mass shooting in the Gold Coast, October 17, 2025. (Citizen)
The shooting began around 3:48 a.m. in the 1100 block of North Dearborn, an area already under police watch, including more than two dozen probationary officers assigned to the nightlife detail.
Officers reported a gray Acura CL and a black Jeep Grand Cherokee, both without license plates, circling the block several times before the attack.

Moments later, both vehicles unleashed gunfire toward the sidewalk before fleeing south on Dearborn toward the Ontario feeder ramp.
Officers immediately radioed “shots fired” and moved in to render aid. Several of the victims were treated on the pavement as firefighters and paramedics arrived.
Tourniquets were applied, and all four victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.
Investigators recovered about twenty-five shell casings from the scene, including fifteen believed to be from a rifle and ten from a handgun. The pattern of fire confirmed that multiple shooters were involved.
A black Jeep Grand Cherokee linked to the attack was later found around 3:54 a.m. near 161 West 33rd Street. Dispatch audio connected the vehicle to a plate registered to Eddie Williams, ending in 59182. Detectives are reviewing whether it was directly involved in the shooting.
A police supervisor confirmed that no officers discharged their weapons and that police were not targeted in the attack.
Four victims—a 22-year-old woman, a 60-year-old man, a 45-year-old man, and a 24-year-old nightclub bouncer—sustained gunshot wounds to their legs, foot, and forearm, but all were reported in good condition.
No arrests have been made.
Area Three detectives are continuing the investigation.
