
(Idaho) Multiple firefighters and police officers were shot in an apparent ambush while responding to an emergency call on Canfield Avenue in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, prompting evacuations and a large law enforcement response

Shots fired by an active shooter in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, towards firefighters rushing to combat wildfires, left two dead and a “unknown amount of casualties,” Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said.
“We have two deaths and an unknown amount of casualties. We still have civilians coming off of that mountain. We might have civilians who are stuck or are in shock on that mountain,” Bob Norris, the Sheriff said, ABC 7 Chicago reported.
Officials called this an “active shooter” incident with multiple injuries near Nettleton Gulch Road after a brush fire was “started deliberately”.
“We are actively taking sniper fire as we speak. This is an active situation,” the Sheriff said in a chilling statement.
Multiple agencies, both local and federal authorities, are assisting in this incident.
“We are prepared to neutralize this suspect who is actively shooting at public safety personnel as quickly as possible,” officials said, adding that they do not know “who the suspects are or how many there are.”
“Modern day sporting rifles and high powered rifles” are being used, the sheriff’s office said.
“If these individuals are not neutralized quickly, this is likely going to be a multi-day situation,” the Sheriff warned.
Authorities said crews were evacuating the area and that a press release with further details would follow. No information on a suspect or motive was released as of Sunday night.
According to an alert from Citizen.com reported the fire was deliberately set to lure firefighters to the scene. As of now two firefighters are confirmed to to have been shot, according to EMS radio traffic. A mass casualty event had been declared at the scene by local law enforcement.
Northern Lakes Fire Protection Chief Pat Riley, told local NBC affiliate KHQ that firefighters were reportedly shot while responding to a brush fire in the area of East Nettleton Gulch Road.

According to the AirNavRadar app, three helicopters are circling the area around the shooting and the fire, but its unclear if they were there to assist with the fire, or with the search for the shooter.
