Mayor Brandon Johnson is hiding public spending records less than 3 months into office.

He is refusing to release how much it cost for his security detail to go the Chosen Few Picnic & Festival 2023 @ Jackson Park 63rd Street and Hayes Drive Saturday, July 8, 2023 …

We requested and even said we don’t want anything that would compromise his safety just want to know how much time, money and hours are being spent …

The police department is now refusing to provide how much taxpayers paid for the mayor to go to a picnic and take pictures …

Clearly this is the most blatant violation of open governance we have experienced in years … to say the public does not have a right to know what we are spending to protect someone is outrageous.

More troubling is the fact the mayor stated on the record about the FOIA process …

1. Do you agree that FOIA violations are a threat to democracy and to the proper functioning of City government?

“Open access to information and open government are essential to our democracy. The role of the press, in particular, is “to serve the governed, not the governors,” and FOIA requests by media outlets are key to providing access to information for the general public.” (BGA Policy Interview, April 10, 2023)

Provide a list or records related to Mayor Brandon Johnson’s security detail and terrorism detail assigned to the Chosen Few Picnic & Festival 2023 @ Jackson Park 63rd Street and Hayes Drive Saturday, July 8, 2023 …

We are not seeking any documents that would compromise the mayors’ safety or any officers safety.

We are seeking the costs, manpower, rank, equipment deployed, and time that was put into going to this event, including overtime hours paid.
