SubX.News® Street Report Jan 13, 2026
A man was shot on the Garfield Green Line platform during the evening rush. Chicago police radio traffic tied the shooting directly to the Garfield Green Line station within minutes of the first call.
Officers acknowledged the victim’s account almost immediately. He said he was shot on the platform and ran to a nearby gas station for help.
Police radio traffic said so.
CTA camera checks were ordered.
Evidence was processed on transit property.
By the end of the night, however, the Chicago Police Department publicly reported the shooting as having occurred more than a block away — off CTA property — at 54th and Prairie.

The contradiction is not subtle.
It is preserved in the radio calls themselves.
The first broadcast came over citywide channels:
“232, units and two units on the citywide, a ticket of a person shot, 338 to 398 East Cars, so that the gas station coming over, details to follow… Second District on class seven.”
Seconds later, Second District clarified the location and confirmed the shooting was real:
“The Second District has a person shot over at 370 East Garfield at the gas station, and they just got on scene over there, and they’re saying that it is bona fide and that the victim is relating that it happened on the green line and he ran to the gas station.”
As officers were still responding, CTA communications introduced a competing version:
“CTA is telling 261 that it happened out front on the sidewalk. It did not happen inside the station.”
That claim did not stop supervisors from directing officers back to CTA infrastructure. Camera checks were ordered anyway:
“Start checking the cameras over the green line at Garfield. This guy’s saying he was shot on the platform…”
A suspect description followed:
“The offender is going to be a male Black, wearing all black. He had dreads and a face mask.”
Movement directions were relayed:
“They’re saying the victim ran eastbound and the offender ran westbound.”
Dispatch then confirmed the call time and victim description:
“The call came in at 1731, and I do know that the victim is wearing all black clothing…”
As the response continued, officers were instructed to search for physical evidence near the tracks:
“232 said, locate shell casings over there, I guess on the sidewalk west of the train.”
Crime scene tape and evidence technicians were later observed on CTA property near the Garfield Green Line station — consistent with the victim’s statement, the camera directives, and the evidence search area described over the air.
Despite this, the Chicago Police Department’s public communications listed the shooting location as 54th and Prairie.
There was no taped crime scene at 54th and Prairie.
There were no evidence markers there.
There were no technicians processing a scene.
The processed location — visible, taped, and worked — was on CTA property.
The radio traffic never changed.
The victim’s statement never changed.
The camera checks never moved.
Only the official address did.
This shooting did not migrate a block west on its own.
It was moved on paper.
That shift erased CTA involvement from the public record while preserving it in radio logs, internal coordination, and physical evidence placement.
The calls remain recorded.
The tape was placed where the shooting happened.
The address told to the public tells a different story.
That gap is the story.
