Preliminary Statement on Chicago Police Sergeant Shot
CHICAGO – On Saturday, March 14, 2026, at approximately 11:11 p.m., an on duty Sergeant assigned to the 5th (Calumet) District was traveling in a marked patrol vehicle when the Sergeant was struck in the leg by gunfire.
The Sergeant self-transported to a local hospital for treatment and is listed in good condition.
A suspect was placed into custody and a weapon was recovered.
Area Detectives are investigating, along with The Investigative Response Team (5th District)

Chicago Police officer has been shot at 114th and Corliss, the officer was wounded in the upper thigh and was self-transported to Christ Hospital.
(delayed update) CPD has a possible offender in custody near 111th and Corliss at the Shell gas station. The officer shot was a CPD sergeant, so they may have been alone when they were shot at. Other officers arrived on scene and transported the wounded officer to Christ Hosp.
Per initial radio traffic, the officer reported shots fired from another vehicle hitting the officer’s car, and feeling something on their leg. Later, other officers blocked the route to the hospital. This is the intersection where the shooting reportedly occurred.
The alleged offender from this shooting of a CPD sgt. was taken into custody and transported. A weapon was found in the offender’s vehicle.
Of note, the gas station where he was taken into custody is literally feet from the CPD 005th Dist. police station.
The officer was alone at the time of the shooting.
