The school system I used to work with has failed the children of Chicago, and it starts with the Chicago Teachers Union. All the officers, administrative staff, and lawyers need to be removed and held accountable for intentionally harming our city’s children.
The main reason we chose homeschooling was teaching to the test. I’m not against tests—tests are needed—but Chicago Public Schools lack proper teaching methods and focus on passing kids along, instead of educating them.
The grammar school principal put too much pressure on our son to make the school look good, but he didn’t get any extra support for what he needed to learn.
After we learned that the teacher who built his foundation in first grade had left for another school, we decided to pull all our kids out of the system until middle school.
We then enrolled them at Evergreen Academy and later Juarez High School.
We were unhappy with CPS staff, who seemed focused on collecting a paycheck or pushing political agendas.
However, all our boys enjoyed public school life and handled tests in their own way.
