CWBChicago … Chicago police have detained a mass murder suspect after four people were found fatally shot on a Blue Line train upon its arrival at the Forest Park terminal.
Forest Park police said they responded to the train station after receiving a call that three people were shot around 5:27 a.m. on Sunday. They cleared the station and found a total of four victims, the police said. Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and the fourth died at Loyola University Medical Center.
Neither Chicago nor Forest Park police have said where the train was located when the victims were shot, whether they were targeted at Forest Park or if they were shot elsewhere and were only discovered upon reaching the end of the line. The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force was leading the investigation as of early Sunday morning.
Forest Park police and CTA security identified a suspect through the transit system’s surveillance footage. Just before 7 a.m., CTA security notified the Chicago Police Department that the suspect was on a train at the California Pink Line station.
CPD officers went to the station, detained the man, and recovered a firearm, according to information provided to CWBChicago.
The CTA temporarily suspended service between Forest Park and Austin while police investigated the murders. Service was returning to normal by 10 a.m., the agency said.
