Juneteenth Chaos, Crime, and Killings … Commentary on a Broken City

Chicago Street Reports | June 19, 2025

While Juneteenth commemorates the enforcement of emancipation by federal troops in 1865, Chicago’s streets on June 19, 2025, told a different story—one of disorder, decay, and unanswered crimes.

At 750 North Michigan Avenue, a woman was robbed in broad daylight. Her purse, credit cards, and money were stolen by a male Hispanic suspect described as wearing a white Nike cap—likely a Mondo migrant criminal. He was caught on camera trying to use her cards at 7-Eleven and Nordstrom. Police questioned the victim and canvassed for leads.

Just hours later, Nordstrom was hit again—this time in a smash-and-grab robbery around 8:00 p.m. on the 670 block of North Michigan. Three offenders were arrested, and at least one suspect got away.

These retail raids follow a predictable script—quick hits, mass confusion, and stolen car escapes—even during the busiest hours.

At the Chicago Athletic Association, someone reportedly fired a weapon inside a bathroom stall. Police found two live rounds and a casing.

A woman wearing only underwear claimed she had been robbed in the food court at 500 West Madison inside the Ogilvie Transportation Center.

No trauma workers on site. No city reps. Just another body in shock.

The Orange Line at Pulaski had another overdose while panhandlers occupied every twenty feet of sidewalk downtown. At Madison and Wabash, a white man was maced during a robbery while a group of women with baby strollers created the perfect distraction crew.

South Side Bloodshed

At 6600 S. Halsted, three gunmen jumped out of a vehicle and shot two men in a parking lot. One was hit multiple times, the other shot in the back. Both were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. This is the same corner where a self-defense shooting occurred just weeks ago with two shot.

It’s a dope spot. Everyone knows it.

Just before 9:30 p.m., a man was executed outside Walgreens at 650 W. 63rd. Hit multiple times in the torso and left for dead. He didn’t make it.

Hours later a few blocks east on 63rd, 2 male blacks about 5’10”, wearing black and grey hoodies armed with a firearm with a drum magazine shot a 37 year old male was in a vehicle parked at the Citgo on 251 W 63rd. They ran ran northwest from the gas station.

At 102nd and Wentworth, shots were fired, a car crashed into a tree and was left abandoned. Owners of the car later returned to find it destroyed.

Further north, an 18-year-old was shot while walking with friends near the 500 block of West Hobbie, the site of the old Cabrini Green Projects.

A woman was stabbed at 52nd and Throop during a street fight. On South Indiana, five males with guns were spotted hanging out on a back porch like nothing’s wrong.

At midnight on 103rd and Wentworth looked like it had been forgotten years ago—no shops, no gathering places, nothing but plywood and shuttered hopes.

In the early morning hours, at 12:35 a.m., downtown showed its true state: no nightlife, no civic life—just a couple of fast food joints on one block and people passed out on sidewalks.

It’s not about Black or White anymore.

It’s about class, abandonment, and political fraud.

Juneteenth Reflections in a City Falling Apart

7 shot injured, 1 killed, and one critically beaten.

While the country celebrated the federal enforcement of emancipation 160 years ago, Chicago marked the occasion with shootings, smash-and-grabs, drug overdoses, and institutional neglect.

The politicians that celebrate the federal government coming into cities enforcing President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, are the same ones now protesting the Federal government going into cities enforcing immigration laws.

Two-faced and forked-tongued liars, what else is there to say.

Back to Chicago.

The Mag Mile and the Loop, our Times Square, it’s being looted and left to rot.

So much for emancipation.
