Chicago police report 13 shooting incidents, 20 shooting victims and five murders. SubX.News® identifies 22 victims through Sunday, while HeyJackass reports 23. All three sources agree on five deaths, but the wounded totals differ.
SubX.News® Crime Report October 19, 2026
CHICAGO — Five murders, two mass shootings, church volunteers wounded after a charitable event and conflicting weekend violence totals have once again raised questions about how Chicago’s shootings, homicides and wounded victims are counted and reported to the public.
Victims were shot, stabbed and beaten in neighborhoods across Chicago, from Little Village and East Garfield Park to Chicago Lawn, Greater Grand Crossing and the Far South Side. The violence struck people inside homes, on sidewalks and along residential streets.
Four men were shot outside a church outreach center after returning from an event helping teenagers pack meals for families overseas. A 62-year-old woman was killed in an assault, a 52-year-old man was stabbed to death, and three men were fatally shot early Sunday morning.
Chicago Police Department statistics released Monday, October 19, recorded 13 shooting incidents, 20 shooting victims and five murders between Friday, October 16, at 6 PM and Sunday, October 18, at 11:59 PM.
SubX.News® identified 22 victims through Sunday night in its incident-by-incident ledger, including five dead and 17 wounded. Four additional shooting victims were documented Monday morning, bringing the running http://SubX.News® list to 26 victims, five dead and 21 wounded through 10:57 AM Monday.
HeyJackass reported five killed and 18 wounded in its final weekend tally, bringing its total to 23 victims.
The sources agree on five deaths, but their reporting periods and victim totals differ. Those differences cannot be resolved simply by treating one source’s numbers as corrections to another.

SubX.News® Running Incident Totals
26 Victims | 5 Dead | 21 Wounded
Running tally covers the 26 incidents and victims listed above, extending into Monday morning.
The Friday-through-Sunday subtotal is 22 victims, five dead and 17 wounded. Monday’s four victims are additional entries, not part of the official CPD weekend period.
Church Volunteers Shot After Feeding Children Charity Event
Four men were wounded in a drive-by shooting Friday night, October 16, outside the New Life Center in the 4000 block of West 26th Street near Pulaski Road in Little Village.
Victims had just returned from a youth outreach event where they accompanied local teenagers to pack meals for families overseas through the charity Feed My Starving Children.
Group included two church staff members, a church peacekeeper or volunteer, and a fourth man whose association with the ministry remains unclear.
Chicago police reported that the men were exiting the building at approximately 11:13 PM when a white sedan pulled alongside them.
An occupant inside the vehicle opened fire, striking all four men before the vehicle fled southbound on Pulaski Road.
56-year-old man was shot in the leg, a 26-year-old man in the foot, a 25-year-old man in the hand and a 19-year-old man in the arm.
All four survived and were treated at Mount Sinai Hospital in good or stable condition. The 19-year-old transported himself to the hospital.
Area Four detectives are investigating. No arrests or publicly confirmed motive were reported in the information available.
Shooting was one of two incidents involving four gunshot victims during the weekend.
More Shot Sunday Morning on the West Side
Four people were shot at approximately 2:27 AM Sunday in the 600 block of South Central Avenue in the Austin neighborhood.
45-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
39-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.
30-year-old man was shot in the neck and left shoulder, and a
28-year-old man was shot in the face.
Shooting was the weekend’s second four-victim incident.
Together, the Little Village and Austin shootings wounded eight people.
Woman, 62, Killed in East Garfield Park Assault
Keri Chappell, 62, died following an assault associated with a residence at 3522 West Flournoy Street in East Garfield Park.
Cook County Medical Examiner records classified her death as a homicide involving multiple injuries sustained in an assault.
Chicago police reported one fatal blunt force trauma homicide in its official weekend statistics.
The precise time of the assault has not been independently established.
Man Stabbed to Death in Chicago Lawn
52-year-old man was found with multiple stab wounds inside a residence in the 2400 block of West 61st Street at approximately 8:34 PM Saturday.
Police responded to a well-being check and discovered the victim unresponsive.
He was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His death was one of two nonshooting homicides included in the official weekend murder count.
Men Fatally Shot Early Sunday Morning
Three separate fatal shootings occurred early Sunday.
Man was fatally shot at approximately 12:20 AM in the 2700 block of South Karlov Avenue.
Jermaine Alexander, 54, was fatally shot at approximately 1:25 AM in the 7600 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue.
Third man was fatally shot in the head at approximately 2:40 AM in the 6600 block of South Champlain Avenue.
Another 20-year-old man was wounded in the Champlain shooting.
Three deaths accounted for all three fatal shooting victims in CPD’s official weekend report.
Numbers Don’t Match … Again
Three sources report the same five murders but present different totals because they do not all measure the same categories or reporting periods.
CPD does not publish a combined 22-victim figure in its weekend release. That number is calculated by adding the two nonshooting homicide victims to its 20 shooting victims.
The table compares the Friday-through-Sunday portion of the http://SubX.News® ledger. Its four Monday shooting victims remain in the running tally above.
First Difference: CPD Reports 20 Shooting Victims, http://SubX.News® Identifies 22 Victims
The difference is not two missing shooting victims.
Chicago police reported 20 shooting victims, including three people fatally shot and 17 wounded.
Police also reported two murders that did not involve gunfire: a fatal stabbing and a fatal blunt force trauma assault.
Adding those two homicide victims produces 22 victims of shootings or homicide.
http://SubX.News® independently identifies 22 victims through Sunday night.
The difference is a matter of which categories are being counted, not evidence that two shooting victims are missing from CPD’s report.
Second Difference: HeyJackass Reports 23 Victims
HeyJackass reported five killed and 18 wounded.
SubX.News® identified five killed and 17 wounded through Sunday night.
The difference is one wounded victim.
Supplied HeyJackass tally includes a Monday morning shooting involving a 31-year-old woman in the 7200 block of South Sangamon Avenue at approximately 1:45 AM.
That shooting also appears in the SubX.News® Monday ledger at 1:43 AM, based on the CPD incident report.
Adding that Monday victim to the SubX.News® Friday-through-Sunday subtotal produces five dead and 18 wounded, matching the final HeyJackass numerical total.
The numerical match provides a possible explanation for the difference. It does not establish that every victim and incident was counted identically by both sources.
Third Difference: Reporting Windows Are Not Identical
Chicago police define the official weekend as Friday at 6 PM through Sunday at 11:59 PM.
HeyJackass uses a Friday-noon-through-Monday-morning reporting window.
SubX.News® maintains a running incident-by-incident ledger that continues into Monday, with four Monday shooting victims documented through 10:57 AM.
Monday Sangamon shooting therefore falls outside CPD’s official weekend report but appears within the HeyJackass weekend period.
SubX.News® also records three additional Monday morning shooting victims after the Sangamon incident.
Those incidents remain part of the independent running ledger rather than being excluded to match either outside source.
HeyJackass Reports Numbers. Can Every Victim Be Accounted For?
HeyJackass publishes weekend violence totals and historical comparisons. Its final October 16–18 report lists five killed and 18 wounded.
Its Monday Sangamon entry offers a plausible explanation for why its wounded total exceeds the SubX.News® Friday-through-Sunday subtotal by one.
However, a matching numerical total does not independently verify that every incident was classified and counted the same way.
A tally must be evaluated against the underlying incidents, their dates, locations, victim classifications and reporting windows.
If one source includes Monday morning while another stops Sunday night, the totals can differ without either source necessarily being incorrect.
If an incident is omitted, duplicated or reclassified, the totals can also change.
Those possibilities must be distinguished before declaring any published tally accurate or inaccurate.
For a weekend involving relatively few deaths and injuries, a difference of one victim can materially affect percentage comparisons.
One victim changes a total of 22 to 23, a difference of approximately 4.5%.
The question is not simply which organization publishes the larger number.
It is whether each number can be traced to an incident, a victim classification and a clearly defined reporting period.

Compared with the corresponding weekend in 2025, HeyJackass reports:
Deaths increased 25%, from four to five.
Wounded victims declined 14.3%, from 21 to 18.
Total victims declined 8%, from 25 to 23.

Chicago Crime Dashboard Shows Fatal Shooting Victims Increasing
Chicago’s year-to-date victimization dashboard through October 17, 2026, recorded 343 homicide victimizations compared with 358 during the corresponding period in 2025, a decline of 4.2%.
Fatal shooting victimizations increased from 292 to 300, or 2.7%.
Total shooting victimizations declined from 1,552 to 1,515, or 2.4%.
Nonfatal shooting victimizations declined from 1,260 to 1,215, or 3.6%.
Percentage of shooting victims who died increased from 18.81% in 2025 to 19.80% in 2026.
Increase represents approximately 0.99 percentage points, or a relative increase of 5.3%.
Dashboard also shows robbery victimizations declining 21.2%, vehicular hijacking victimizations declining 22.9%, and total violent crime victimizations declining 7.2%.
Human trafficking victimizations increased 58.8%, from 17 to 27.
Multi-victim shooting incidents remained nearly unchanged, declining from 206 to 205.
What the Weekend Numbers Reveal
Chicago’s October 16–18 weekend produced five murders, including three fatal shootings and two nonshooting homicides.
SubX.News® independent ledger documents 22 victims through Sunday night and four additional shooting victims Monday morning.
CPD reports 20 shooting victims and five murders for its official weekend window. HeyJackass reports five killed and 18 wounded using a different reporting period.
Apparent discrepancies demonstrate why shooting victims, homicide victims, wounded victims and reporting windows must be identified before statistics are compared.
Chicago’s year-to-date crime dashboard presents another distinction: fewer shooting victims overall but more fatal shooting victims than during the corresponding period in 2025.
Figures show why declining overall crime statistics do not necessarily mean every form of violence is declining.
Numbers matter. So do the victims behind them.
